Glenbower Wood & Lake CLG are delighted to announce that invasive species managementworks have commenced on site in Glenbower Wood as of today, Tuesday 7th April.These works will continue until the autumn and form part of an ongoing programme toprotect and restore the ecological health of Glenbower Wood. Funded by the BiodiversityStrand of the EirGrid Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund, the current phasefocuses on the management of invasive species including Rhododendron ponticum andCherry laurel, which have been identified as a threat to the woodland’s biodiversity andregeneration.Works are being carried out by Wild Fern Ecology, with all invasive species managementundertaken under the supervision of a qualified ecologist and in line with best ecologicalpractice. The first phase of contractor works is focused on priority and technically sensitiveareas and will involve the targeted use of herbicide treatment.Alongside these works, Glenbower Wood & Lake CLG is also establishing a voluntarymeitheal group to support invasive species management and wider biodiversityenhancement works in the wood.
